Lambing Sunday a big hit with families
The weather couldn't have been better for Bridgwater College's Lambing Sunday as over 1400 people came to see the newborn lambs, piglets and calves at Rodway Farm in the glorious sunshine.
The third annual Lambing Sunday event proved to be an excellent day out for all the family, with opportunities to hold and feed the newborn lambs, tour the facilities of the farm and take part in animal trails. The tractor trailer rides were very popular with a steady flow of visitors enjoying rides around the farm. As well as seeing the farm animals, visitors were also able to find out more about the wide range of Agricultural and Land-based courses the College offers.
"It's great to see so many people visiting the farm for what has proved to be another successful Lambing Sunday", said Jeremy Kerswell, Head of Land-based Studies at Bridgwater College. "It is a very busy time of the year at the farm for staff and students, with 250 ewes having either already given birth or about to over the coming weeks. Visitors were lucky enough to see five lambs born today, four within only half an hour of each other!"
Charlotte Thompson, one of the children enjoying holding one of the lambs, said "I've had lots of fun cuddling the lambs, given the chance I would love to take one home!"
Lambing Sunday is just the beginning of another busy events calendar at Bridgwater College with Mothering Sunday taking place on 14 March at the Walled Gardens of Cannington from 10am - 4pm.
